Children play with money

Children play with money in the period of hyperinflation. Germany, 1922
Like many other participants in the war, Germany canceled the exchange of paper banknotes for gold and sharply increased the money supply (5 times during the war). Naturally, inflation began.
By the middle of 1922, prices had increased 40 times, and a year later – by 90 (compared to 1919). But it was just the beginning. The government continued to issue money and inflation accelerated sharply. From July to November, the money supply increased 132,000 times, and prices increased 854,000 times. By the end of November 1923, one trillion marks were given for one dollar, a loaf of bread was worth 430 billion marks. The government printed money, issued more and more denominations, but prices grew faster. The middle class was impoverished, speculators grew richer, and the calculations took place in dollars (the value of the dollars in circulation in Germany was more than the total value of the stamps issued).
